6th grade Science:

Monday - Labor Day - No School

HW - Come to school prepared with all your materials.

Tuesday - Class Intro, Lab Safety Contract, Informed Consent Agreement/Permission to Publish, and HP Grant Photo Release forms and discussions.

We only got through some of this paperwork today so your child may not have all of it to read with you. I do want your child to read everything with you and not just hand it off to you and let you do all the reading and signing.

HW - Get all your paperwork for Science and Cispus to your parents. Have your parents sign as much as they can today and then bring them back tomorrow or by the end of this week. Cispus forms aren't due until Monday, Setp 10, but if you're done early turn it all in to us.

Wednesday - Finish lesson on Informed Consent Agreement/Permission to Publish.

HW - Same as Mon & Tues

Thursday - Share HP Grant Photo Release so kids can explain to parents, then begin Mt. Saint Helens volcano activity. We will setup notebooks today as we begin studying volcanoes.

HW - Same as Mon & Tues and make sure to ask your child for the Cispus reminder, it's a pink half sheet.

Friday - We read through the scientific drawing guidelines as we prepare to make our first drawings of the year on Monday.

HW - Same as Mon & Tues

7th grade Science:

Monday - Labor Day - No School

HW - Come to school prepared with all your materials.

Tuesday - Class Intro, Lab Safety Contract, and HP Grant Photo Release forms and discussions.

We only got through some of our paperwork today so I'll hand out the rest tomorrow. We didn't get to the HP photo release forms today.

I showed the water quality videos that film crews made last year (movies were finished on the last day of school so no one got to see the finished product!).

HW - Get all your paperwork signed by a parent and returned by tomorrow. You will get your Informed Consent Agreement/Permission to Publish form in Ms. Berg's or Mr. Meacham's class (whoever you have for Language Arts), so make sure you get that filled out and signed quickly. A lot of what we will do in Science this year depends on that form being on file with our district.

Wednesday - Today we will finish watching last year's water quality movies. We will segway from last year's project to this year's study of Life Science. We talked about the HP Grant Photo Release form so that kids can explain it to their parents.

HW - Same as Mon & Tues

Thursday - To review the scientific method and the use of Inquiry Boards we will conduct a paper airplane lab.

  • Step 1 - Sketch then create two or three designs of paper airplanes.
  • Step 2 - Fly them to see how they fly. Take notes from your observations of how the planes fly.
  • Step 3 - Make some predictions as to what made the planes fly the way they did.
  • Setp 4 - Start using the Inquiry Boards to design and execute an experimental lab to manipulate a single variable and collect data about paper airplanes.

HW - Same as Mon & Tues

Friday - Today we will continue our paper airplane lab as students work on their lab write-up. We got as far as brainstorming variables and choosing variables.

HW - Same as Mon & Tues as well as show parents our list of items needed this year.
