Classroom Expectations for Mr. González

We discussed the following as a class and agreed that we would try to abide by them:

1. Treat me, as your teacher, with the same respect with which I treat you.

2. Your actions may not cause a problem for anyone else.

3. If you cause a problem, you will be asked to solve it.

4. If you cannot solve the problem or choose not to, I will do something. What I do will depend upon the situation and the person involved.

5. If I do something that appears to be unfair, you may come talk to me in private and we will discuss it.

GIVE ME FIVE!
When the teacher or a guest or a student or a team is presenting or talking to the class, here is what everyone needs to be doing:
1.                    EYES ON SPEAKER
2.                    QUIET
3.                    BE STILL
4.                    HANDS FREE
5.                    LISTEN

Entering the classroom:

  1. We all agreed to enter a classroom quietly and calmly.
  2. Get to your seat and get your materials.
  3. Fill out the planner and begin the class opener.

Getting the teacher's attention:

  1. If the teacher is not working with another student or group, then raise your hand or go over to him.
  2. If the teacher is busy with another student or group, then ask your teammates.
  3. If your teammates don't know, then ask your tablemates.
  4. If your tablemates don't know, try writing something down and wait until the teacher is not busy to ask.

Whole Class discussion:

  1. Everyone has to Give Me Five (see above).
  2. Mr. González will choose names from his bag.
  3. If not, then Mr. González will call on students as they raise their hands.

Noise Level:

  1. We all agreed that buddy voices or table voices will work the best.
  2. If someone gets excited a teammate will ask that person, "Could you please lower your voice?"
  3. The person being asked to lower his or her voice will not get angry but will continue talking at table or buddy voice.
  4. If the person does not lower his or her voice, then Mr. González will need to help solve the problem (Classroom Expectation #4, see above).

Cooperative Group Strategies

1.       Use table or buddy voices when working in groups.
2.       Take turns sharing ideas.
3.       Be polite and listen to each other.
4.       Praise and encourage each other.
5.       Be responsible (contribute to your group but don't do all the work yourself).  Everyone works!
