Talent Show Hit!

Talent Show Hit!

Yesterday, Friday the 14th, was our last day of school. It was a half day of fun for us at the middle school. We did start the day by giving out awards to the top academic kids but those were the only awards (besides honor roll and attendance) that we gave out all year!

After the awards portion of our fun day we had an awesome talent show where middle schoolers sang, danced, played music and showed off their movie-making talents. It was great! We ended with an end of year slideshow and a great lunch all hosted by our ASB.

It was, as always, bittersweet. It’s nice to get a break. A time for kids to have fun and recharge and a time for me to recharge, catch up on reading, look for some cool online classes, and reflect and plan for next year. But it was also sad saying goodbye. Goodbye to my 8th graders who are going to high school and goodbye to my 6th graders who will be 7th graders (I don’t get to teach 7th grade).

For me it’s not quite over yet though since we have trainings Monday and Tuesday around our new teacher evaluation system for WA State, TPEP (our district chose the CEL framework). Then I’ll be spending the rest of the week moving 22 years worth of stuff to my new classroom. I’m leaving a room I’ve come to love to move to one of the two Science classrooms in our school. Once I get over leaving my beloved room I’ll enjoy the fact that I’ll be teaching Science in an actual Science classroom. Yeah, it’ll be good.

Then I get back to some relaxing work. I’ll be able to devote more to the summer edition of the Games MOOC that has been underway. I’m trying to figure out why my first attempt at gamifying my classes failed miserably. But for now, I’m going to slow down. I’ve done a lot already, especially during the last couple of weeks of school, so I’m going to do things a little at a time and focus on what’s right in front of me. I need to take it easy, enjoy my family, and maybe find some time to play a little World of Warcraft. 🙂
