Great First Week!

What a great first week of school! I am lucky enough to get to work with three classes of 6th grade Science and two classes of 8th grade Science. Thanks to Mr. Rice’s Play with a Purpose blog we did a fun activity on the first day of school with oobleck.

I had to take care of some business with 6th graders to help them participate in middle school fully plus get them ready to go to Camp Cispus next week. Yep, we’re going on a four day and three night trip on the second week of school! Exciting and nerve wracking! 🙂 At camp we get to visit Mt Saint Helens so I shared some pictures of the volcano and students watched a cool video.

Eighth graders got to practice thinking critically about what we find online with a hoax activity I put together. It was a great way to get across the idea that you can’t believe everything you see on the Internet. Luckily, they knew that! Next week while I’m at Camp Cispus, 8th graders will be researching the Gulf Oil Spill. I can’t wait to see what great things they create to share what they learn.

This is going to be a fantastic year, I’m so excited!
