EARLY CANADIAN TRADING POST

To celebrate our study of Canada, all of our sixth graders will have the opportunity to set-up a "trading post outlet". We've encouraged kids to think about how to make this experience as authentic as possible and here are some ideas:

-choose, as a team, one of the 13 Canadian provinces or territories and provide "artifacts" for a museum exhibit
[Note: to help students learn more about their province visit Canada Resource Links
to choose your province or territory (those are the same resources students used for their Canadian Vacation project.]
-make items at home such as crafts, jewelry, plants, art work
-if chosen for a food post, make food items which are "close" to an "early Canadian food" (do the research and be prepared to prove that your food is from the correct time period and place).
-post decorations and dress, setting early Canada (1640-1750, please refer to Chapters 20 and 21 in our Social Studies text)
-find items at home to trade (or sell for classroom money) such as used books, toys, games, etc.
