6th grade Science:

Monday - Today we took a look at EMM lesson 14 on the Mechanical Advantage of Machines, specifically the inclined plane and the pulley. We used our class data to calculate the ideal and actual mechanical advantage.

HW - None

Tuesday - Today and tomorrow all the science teachers, Mr. Thomsen, Mr. DiPrete and I will be at a science training at Mt. Vernon to create formative assessments for our students.

Sixth graders will be answering questions based on their lessons 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 reading.

HW - None

Wednesday - Same as yesterday.

HW - None

Thursday - Today we had a 2-hour late start due to snow.

I had a discussion with my 1st and 4th period classes on the importance of treating substitute teachers with respect. If subs think my classes are out of control I gain a bad reputation and I will have a hard time getting subs. If I don't train, I will not improve as a teacher and I work too hard to have a bad reputation with my subs.

My second period class did well and they got to proceed as planned. They got to work on EMM lesson 15 as we calculated the efficiency of our inclined planes and pulleys.

HW - None

Friday - Today 1st and 4th periods will finish their reading questions. Second period will finish lesson 15 and begin lesson 16 where they will plan which simple machine they will use with their motor to lift a heavy sled.

HW - None

7th grade Science:

Monday - Check Earthquake site for new earthquakes.

As part of our Earth Movement project kids are still taking the first few minutes of class to check for any earthquakes happening in their region of the earth.

Today I showed kids and gave them a handout for using the SCAN-n-RUN reading strategy with our Earth Science textbook and I showed them an example for how to take notes from the book in Outline Format. Those notes will be used by students when they make their websites to share what they learned about plate tectonics.

HW - Kids are losing their packets and I didn't make any extras because it was a lot of paper just making each kid one packet. So what I've done is put all the handouts on the Earth Science webpage and the Earth Movement webpage.

Tuesday - Today and tomorrow all the science teachers, Mr. Thomsen, Mr. DiPrete and I will be at a science training at Mt. Vernon to create formative assessments for our students.

Seventh graders will work on taking notes from the Earth Science textbook on earthquakes (Ch 5, p. 144).
